Конвейер для перевода книг целиком BookTransTL;DRЯ потратил пару недель на создание конвейера с открытым исходным кодом, который переводит книги целиком с помощью платных подписок на LLM.

Сноски используются и для непонятных слов: редких научных терминов, устаревшей лексики, исторических имён, географических объектов и культурных отсылок.

Ради интереса я сравнил одинаковые задания на русском и английском и в своих тестах заметной разницы в качестве перевода не увидел.

Если такое место найдено, конвейер останавливается до перевода и показывает его пользователю; продолжить после ручной проверки можно с отдельным ключом --force-injected .

Перевод книги — процесс долгий, и конвейер в любой моме…

The new CEO of Monzo is a “huge advocate” of Monzo’s business bank, according to its general manager, who hailed hitting one million business customers as “really big”.

Last month, the UK digital bank, which has over 16 million customers across retail and business banking, said Monzo Business, which launched in 2020, had hit one million business customers.

Mobile learning platform Duolingo has acquired Animade, a London-based animation and motion design studio.

The team will join Duolingo's Design Studio, increasing the company's capacity to support product innovation, growth experiments, and new creative initiatives across the business.

Lovable, one of Europe’s most prominent startups, has raised a Series C round which was co-led by Silicon Valley investor Menlo Ventures and the Scaleup Europe Fund, managed by EQT.

The new funding is more than double Lovable’s December 2025 $6.6bn valuation when it raised $330m.

The first flight of the largest battery-electric aircraft to take to the skies lasted nearly half an hour while costing just $5 of electricity.

That aviation feat comes at a time when jet fuel prices have skyrocketed because of the US war with Iran.

The test flight of Heart Aerospace’s X1 demonstrator aircraft took place at Plattsburgh International Airport in upstate New York on August 12.

All-electric aircraft can offer quieter and cleaner flight without the emissions that come from burning jet fuel.

They may also prove more reliably cost-effective than conventional aircraft that come with jet fuel costs subject to geopolitical disruptions.

In a decision published last week, Connecticut judge Walter Spader Jr. confirmed that the hidden text had no impact in a case where a man alleged a healthcare provider was improperly withholding access to records.

The court weighed his filing on the merits, Spader said, but nevertheless, the attempted attack sets a “dangerous” precedent.

A state court in Washington this week ordered Kalshi to stop offering sports gambling and a variety of other wagers on its prediction market.

King County Superior Court Judge John McHale issued a preliminary injunction in response to a lawsuit filed against Kalshi by the state of Washington.

“The order requires Kalshi to stop offering, accepting, or facilitating wagers on sports, elections, politics, entertainment, culture, tech and science, or mentions in Washington,” said a press release yesterday from Washington Attorney General Nick Brown.

“Kalshi must implement an IP address and residency-based geofence by August 19 and a multi-source geofencing solution by September 2.

After its cloud storage provider went defunct, a PBS affiliate decided to sue a data center provider to regain access to 50TB of TV shows, videos, and other data dating back 70 years.

As reported this week by Current, a trade newspaper covering public broadcasting, St. Louis affiliate Nine PBS filed a lawsuit against Iron Mountain Data Centers on July 28, seeking access to the data.

In the litigation filed in Denver District Court, Nine PBS says that its cloud storage provider, Open Source Storage (OSS), used one of Iron Mountain’s Denver data centers to store the channel’s data.

However, OSS is being unresponsive, and Nine PBS says Iron Mountain has refused to release its data.

The long answer is that, for the last two decades or so, the global RAM market has been pretty predictable.

We may want more RAM in our devices over time, but the total volume of RAM modules required each year has been pretty stable.

DigiTimes claims that every manufacturer's 2027 RAM capacity has already been sold out.

If you'll forgive the inexact but telling comparison, that amount of RAM is equivalent to the RAM in 14,000,625 iPhones 17 or 9,333,750 Galaxy S26s.

Anthropic has revealed how it's watermarking text generated by Claude AI to comply with the European Union's new AI transparency rules.

The company said its text watermarking will not have easy-to-see visuals, will not be distinguishable to the people who read it and will not be adding hidden characters to the text.

Anthropic admits that its text watermarking method does have limitations.

Anthropic will also watermark images by adding a cryptographically signed note in its metadata that says it was generated by Claude.

Anthropic will also add watermarking capability to older Claude models over the coming months.

Gone are the days of analog television, when families would huddle around a massive console to enjoy a static-riddled broadcast of The Dick Van Dyke Show.

For younger audiences, parsing the differences between television broadcast technologies can be difficult.

Incredibly, this means that some users likely watched an analog broadcast while texting on their iPhone.

As it stands, television broadcasts are undergoing a similar evolution with the introduction of NextGen Television, or ATSC 3.0, which adds internet protocols to digital television broadcasting.

To put these changes in context, let's take a look back at the rise and fall of television technology that started it all: analog.

But as the connector and underlying interfaces have evolved over the decades, it's more confusing than ever to know what a given USB port or cable is capable of.

Older USB ports are still fine for connecting devices that aren't reliant on speed.

Knowing what's underneath a connector or port gives you confidence when buying a new laptop or cable.

It also helps you optimize which devices are plugged into which slots so you don't waste time on sub-optimal transfer times.

Next time you look at your USB devices, you'll know how to make sense of these identifiers.

If you drive a hybrid car, you might not be aware that it actually has two batteries: a low-voltage auxiliary battery and the much larger traction battery.

What happens when a hybrid battery dies depends on which of those batteries you're having trouble with.

The traction battery stores energy for the electric motor and, through a DC-to-DC converter, helps keep the 12-volt system charged.

If that small battery is dead, the car may be completely inoperable even when the high-voltage pack is fine.

A high-voltage battery warning needs prompt attention.

USB-C is the connector you plug your charging cables or peripherals into; USB4 is the latest USB standard.

It's also important to note that while all USB4 cables use USB-C, older USB-C connectors won't support USB4's higher bandwidth.

That means if you plug a USB4 device into, say, a USB 3.2 port, you'll be limited to that standard's max 10 or 20 Gbps bandwidth (depending on the generation), not the 40 Gbps first-gen USB4 is capable of.

USB4 launched back in 2019, so if you've bought a new PC or laptop from 2020 onward, there's a good chance your hardware supports the latest USB standard.

Puerto Rico is experiencing a historic drought that’s led to water rationing following the driest month on record in July.

“One of the best unused reservoirs of water in Puerto Rico are the roofs of the houses,” says Fernando Abruña, a partner at local firm Abruña & Musgrave Architects.

Across 108 enterprises, trust in automated agent evaluation rose sharply in July — and the failure rate it is supposed to predict did not move at all. James Martin/CNETA California agency tasked with enforcing the state’s civil rights laws has reportedly filed a lawsuit against Tesla, alleging racial discrimination and harassment occurred at the electric carmaker.

The California Department of Fair Employment and Housing said it filed the complaint Wednesday in Alameda County Superior Court.

Tesla didn’t respond to a request for comment but criticized the agency’s investigation in a blog post Wednesday.

The Wall Street Journal reports that US Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick has urged Apple not to turn to Chinese memory chips as the company looks for alternatives to alleviate the ongoing global supply shortage.
